Healthy ecological environment makes significant contributions to the harmonious development between economy and society . Since the 1980s, China has expedited the process of industrialization and has achieved the rapid development of national economy, and meanwhile it proved expensively .Heavy-pollution and heavy-energy-consumption chemical industries occupy an important place in national economy which result in the total amount of pollutants discharge far exceeding the bearing capacity of environment. Various environmental pollution accident is occurred thick and fast. The total environment condition for the whole country is rather serious. Jiangxi province which economic and social development is relatively backward has just been in the mid-period of industrialization now . Total environmental quality is better than the national average since the influence caused by industrialization is less serious .But, with the speeding up of industrialization , industrial pollution has been going up year by year and agriculture pollution has been nearly out of control. Lots of economic development activities cause resources degradation,environmental pollution and ecological destruction, etc. And that is eroding the natural eco-environment which jiangxi province's sustainable development relies on. However, industrialization is the natural choice of jiangxi's economic soar. It is estimated that energy consumed will keep going up and discharge of industrial pollution is becoming more complicated day by day. The contradiction between environment and development will surely become more prominent. Poyang Lake Basin, which maintain the whole economic and social development of jiangxi province will be under increasing environmental pressure. Therefore, Jiangxi province can realize socioeconomic sustainable development only when we pay enough attention to the environmental governnace of Poyang Lake Basin .The paper not only make a detailed introduction to the natural environment and the social economic situation of Poyang Lake Basin but also make an objective assessment of its whole environmental condition . After that the paper elaborates on the practical significance of optimizing govern of Poyang Lake Basin.Environment governance needs better environmental policy.
