Dyeing process is the core of the production in dyeing and printing enterprises. It is a complex operation with high uncertain factory, where a lot of constraints must be taken into account. With all these, it's very hard to do the production arrangement well and to obtain reasonable plan for the production of orders only by human-made method. Rational production arrangement which can improve the production capacity, reduce the energy consumption and accomplish an order on schedule is of great significance.According to customer demands, the task of production planning of vat is to form yarn a batch to be processed in the vat. Considering the dyeing lines and the color of production, the yarn batched in one vat need to be consistent. The weight of yarn in one vat can't be more than the capacity of the vat.This problem can be regarded as a batching machines scheduling problem. Firstly this paper in detail analysed the constraints of production planning of vat. Meanwhile according to the practical background of batch dyeing production, two methods of mapping out production planning of vat were proposed.(1) After analyzing the general solution of batching machines scheduling problem, the paper developed a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model of production planning of vat. Batching of the product demand and scheduling of the batches attained from the batching process could be accomplished simultaneously in the model. Compared to the two-step method of batching as the first step and scheduling as the next step, the model had dramatically reduced the complexity of the model, and the solution of the model was more accurate. An example was given to illustrate the performance of the model.(2) Based on the empirical rules, the problem was converted into the transportation problem. A mathematical model was established, and it was solved by genetic algorithm with spanning tree decoding. Then a comparative analysis on the two methods of production planning of vat was conducted.Finally, the paper expounded the software design of optimized production planning of vat system. System frameworks, database, UI, operability were all paid sufficient attention. Inner representations of the system together with implement details were also depicted here.
