With the development of science and technology, the requirement of precision modules and precision parts increase greatly, that forces the fast development of LS-WEDM machine much. The motion control system is one of the most parts of the CNC system; its performances touch directly the whole CNC system. After analyzing the development of LS-WEDM machine all over the world, the paper exploited a motion control system of LS-WEDM machine, designed the hardware and software. In the part of hardware, the paper designed a motion control board with the special motion control chip-MCX314As that is produced by NOVA company, the board included functions of pulse output, limit and emergency input, coder signal input, and so on, implemented the 4-axis linkage function of LS-WEDM creatively with hardware. Has designed MCU board that adopted AT89C52 as main chip, for improving expanding function of the system, expanded the parallel interface of MCU using the programmable parallel interface chip 8255. Aiming at the problem that MCU has less capacity of ROM and RAM expanded the outer ROM and RAM 32KB respectively. For implementing communication with the industry computer, designed the RS485 serial interface. The paper has designed key and display board that included 32 keys and 32 LED for communication between user and MCU.Implemented the software using C language under KEIL C51 Vision2, the control system software mainly included initial module, program module, display module and run module, that could input the ISO code, display code, amend and run the program and so on.Has carried through the system static debug, unit debug with hardware and software, simulated the 4-axis linkage function.
