Perfluorosulfonate ion exchange fiber (PSAIF) is a new type ion exchange fiber, not only a useful supplement for the current ion exchange fiber, but also a whole new field for perfluorosulfonic acid resin application. It is of great significance. In this paper, the performance of PSAIF prepared by melt spinning was studied. The studies are followed:1. Preparation and physical properties of PSAIFBy imitating the melt spinning process, PSAIF was formed through capillary rheometer. Rheological behavior of precursor resin was studied at testing condition. In this section, physical properties of the fiber were investigated. Surface morphology of the fiber was observed by SEM, thermal stability was tested by TGA and DSC. Ion exchange capacity of the fiber was also determined.2. Adsorption properties of PSAIF for Ca2+ and Cu2+Static adsorption properties of PSAIF in solution for Ca2+ and Cu2+ were studied. The effects of pH value, temperature and initial ion concentrations were discussed. Desorption efficiency, regenerative and reuse capacity of PSAIF were also assessed for three successive adsorption-desorption cycles. An ion exchange column was made of an acid burette packed with PSAIF. Dynamic adsorption properties of PSAIF for Ca2+ and Cu2+ were studied. Breakthrough and elution curves for Ca2+ and Cu2+ were investigated.3. Adsorption mechanism of PSAIFThe adsorption isotherms of PSAIF for Ca2+ and Cu2+ were determined and respectively simulated by Langmuir and Freundlich equation. Kinetics and thermodynamics of adsorption for ions were studied and Values ofΔH,ΔG,ΔS and Second Order Reaction Rate constant were calculated.
