Membrane bio-electric reactor (MBER) is one kind of new process of waste water treatment, to combine membrane separate process with biochemistry, electrochemistry and the high-grade oxidation technology. It is necessary to carry out extensive research theoretically and practically.Novel MBER process is initially put forward and utilized to deal with noxious phenol wastewater as well as MBR process and active sludge and electro-catalytic method and their coupling technics in this article. The main content in this article are as follows:The microorganisms after noxious phenol acclimation and electriferous acclimation are observed, and found kinds of protozoa tend to single gradually, with Vorticella appearing ultimately. It indicates microorganisms are acclimated well.We study the influences factors such as initial concentration, pH vaule, temperature and MLSS toward phenol degradation process in electro-catalytic method, active sludge method and their coupling technics. As a result, we find zero grade kinetics rule are the same with degradation process of the three reaction methods. The degradation efficiency of coupling technics is larger than the summation of the two single methods in unit reaction time. It means that there is no restraining action between electro-catalytic and active sludge method, yet coupling technics could promote the reaction efficiency. In the process of treating phenol wastewater continuously with MBR process, HRT and feeding phenol concentration are studied, It results that HRT is 9h when feeding phenol concentration is 1000 mg·L-1, and HRT is 13h when feeding phenol concentration is 1500 mg·L-1, and HRT is 18h when feeding phenol concentration is 2000 mg·L-1.Under the same process conditions, it is compared that treating phenol wastewater continuously with MBER process and MBR process. As a result, the capability of treating phenol wastewater with MBER process is better than MBR process.
