A special finite element analysis software for the numerical simulation of short mandril drawing has been developed,comprehensive applying the knowledge of elastic-plastic deformation,numerical simulation and computer,and depending on the universal finite element analysis software-ANSYS.This software has been aptimize the drawing process and the mandril.The stress-field of a typical steel tube drawing process with a short mandril (Φ60×3.0mm—Φ55×2.7mm) and the maximal maximal axial stress of the steel tube have been analyzed.The maximal stress concentrate on the surface of the mandril with a great value ,and has a smallvalue on the other part of the mandril.The maximal stress transfers from the common boundary of working land and shoulder filletto the common boundary of working land and mandril chamfer during the drawing process.For the stress status relating to the mandril failure ,adhere wear is occurred on the local surface of the mandril because of the punctuate stress,and the microcracks willform on the surface then propagate and make the mandril fracture. The maximal axial stress on the steel tube appears during the mandril moving to the working point,and the maximal drawing force appears during the tube gliding from the mandril. Before optimizing dresign for tube drawing process and mandril,with the orthogonality designing and similar theory,as many as 25 set simulation tests on steel tube drawing process with a short mandril have been conducted to research for the effect of various technological parameters on the maximal stress on mandril and maximal axial stress on steel tube.Based on the result, from the process and parameters and geometric parameters of the two dies, the effect trend of various technological paramenters on the maximal stress of the mandril and the maximal axial stress of tube have been analyzed.According to the above research,the optimizing design for tube drawing process and mandril has been worked out.A small and medium diameter tube drawing process table of the Chengdu Profiled Steel Tube Factory has been redesigned,and the number of drawing pass has been reduced.According to the stress characteristic of the mandril,the advice of optimizing design for the mandril is improving the surface properties of the mandril.
