Standards for the mould design are the principles refered to by designers when they design standardized parts and components in a mould. In so many standards for design, how to help designers search for standards quickly and accurately, especially related standards, is an important problem in the mould manufacturer. When we manage all kinds of standards in the Mould Knowledge Management System (MKMS) by use of computers, traditional searching approaches, such as those based upon the key words, can't very well meet the requirement from users when they want to obtain both target design data and related valuable references. Therefore, according to the related characteristics of the standards, to improve the search efficiency for the knowledge based on semantic ontology which can discovery natural relationships amang concepts automatically from those out-of-date search paradigms operated on the character-match processes, is an important way to solve this problem. In terms of this thought, this paper is devoted to the research on the computer discovery of the natural relationships amang concepts automatically in design standards of injection mould by means of semantic ontology. The main content of this paper is as follow:1. On the basis of the analysis to the knowledge system of the design standards for injection moulds, this paper improves the ontological domain structure of the mould design knowledge, thereby building up an ontological domain model for injection moulds oriented to the design standards.2. This paper puts forward an improved storage pattern for the OWL_SQL ontology which is necessary for us to employ traditional relational database.3. In accordance with the knowledge points of the design standards, this paper invents a new kind of knowledge labels and then builds up the semantic annotation model and finally designs the semantic annotation flow towards the design standards.4. A measure of concept similarity, which is based upon the injection mould ontology, is proposed by analyzing the relationship between semantic similar path and concept similarity. In view of the related characteristics in the design standards, we propose the similarity measures of design standard and design the automatically relating flow of the design standards based upon semantic ontology.5. On the basis of above research results, we develop a function to realize computer discovery of the natural relationships amang concepts automatically in the design standards by use of semantic ontology in the Mould Knowledge Management System.
