With the rapid increase of population and economy, health and ecological services deterioration of river ecosystem are becoming serious. As river degradation becoming the primary problem faced by the river ecosystem of countries all over the world, more attention has been paid to river restoration and river ecosystem health. But much of the current research relating to concepts and theories and methodologies is meaningful only as exploration Comprehensive and systematic academic research. Consequently, study on river health assessment and its development in river restoration is of great theoretical and practical significance. A review of river health assessment history in various countries is used in this thesis to discuss the future development trends of river restoration and the relationship between river health and river restoration. Based on the characterization and assessment of river health, in order to evaluate river state in ecosystem level, in term of the related rationale of ecosystem health, river ecosystem health concept and its intension are explained. The indicator system, including water quality, water quantity, aquatic life, physical form and riparian zone, together with the five-grade assessment standard described as "very healthy, healthy, sub-healthy, unhealthy, sick" are established. Moreover, the integrative fuzzy hierarchical assessment model is used to set the base for systematic research on river ecosystem. Finally, the paper gives an example showing how to use the model.
