Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5) is one part of aerosol in air, and also the primary part hurting human health and reducing visibility. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), a kind of POPs are ubiquitous in air, contributing more than 1/3 of the total carcinogenic chemicals. The understanding of occurrence, sources and fates for PAHs on fine particulate matter is the basis of controlling PAHs pollution efficiently, thus reducing personal intake and protecting human health.Five sampling areas which represent traffic center, industrial area, commercial area, residential area and the suburb were set in Nanchang city to collect fine particulate matter in ambient air in summer of 2007. The collected samples were extracted by Ultrasonic extraction, concentrated by Kuderna-Danish concentractor and blowing high purity nitrogen in sequence, then High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) were used to analyze the pretreated samples.Based on the determined data at various sampling areas, the main sources of PAHs on fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in NanChang city were estimated by Principal Component Analysis method of Factor Analysis Method. The percentage of contributions of various pollution source to PAHs on fine particulate matter in NanChang city were caculated by Multilple Regress Method. The main pollution sources were vehicle emission, high-temperature combustion and coal combustion which accounted for 32.9%,28.2% and 22.0%.
