As the Reverse Osmosis(RO)technology has been used in the fields of water-treatment, the scale of RO elements'cleaning market is increasing obviously. General chemical cleaning can clean out the most of pollutant, and prolong the life of elements to 3 years or more years, but that can't recover the performance of membrane absolutely. Many elements must be out of commission in 3-5 years. The recovering of membrane's performance and reuse of disused elements'are regarded as a problem by public in recent years. The study on evaluation of membrane fouling is few. The systemic study on cleaning of fouling, recovering and reuse of disused RO elements are reported scarcely any.Based on above problems, the way of evaluation of RO elements is introduced. The general ways of RO elements'cleaning and factors of impacting the effects of chemical cleaning are studied by experiments. The recovering of performance of disused RO elements and reuse are studied particularly.Accorded to the RO designing software, the way of evaluation of RO elements'fouling under the same testing conditions is introduced. For the elements retaining a little capability of removing salt and transporting water, the author discussed the cleaning effects under different conditions, referring to kinds and concentration of chemical, time of reacting, pH, temperature and so on.The feasibility of reuse of disused RO elements and recovering their performance is studied particularly. For the elements losing capability of removing salt and transporting water, the author introduced recovering element performance by tearing down, chemical surface-treating, second scrolling. The experiments indicated that disused RO elements gained well capability of transport water, but the performance of removing salt declined partly. Moreover, the regenerated elements can filtrate most of suspended solids, colloids, and organics those molecular weight are over 200 in water. The elements'configuration by second scrolling is the same as the early elements. These characteristic make it possible to reuse regenerate elements in the fields of desalting, pretreatment of RO projects for wastewater recycle, material concentration and so on.As the result of cost-benefit analysis, the regenerate elements reused in above fields can reduce cost of RO projects partly.
