The research status of electroluminescence materials and devices using europium complexes as emitter was reviewed in this dissertation. The synthesis of and the properties of red organic electroluminescent devices (OLED) with europium complexes was studied in order to improve the carrier properties and emitting brightness of the OLED. Three types of europium complexes were synthesized and the relationships of these complexes structure and their luminescence properties were discussed. The result form ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV) and photo-luminescence (PL) spectroscopy revealed that: (1) Europium complexes had a strong UV absorbance at the wavelength of 290~350nm and the characteristic PL spectrum ion at 613 nm respectively; (2) The structures of ligands had a critical role influence on PL intensity of europium complexes. Three kinds of ligands synthesized could improve europium complexes; (3) Compared with the fluorescent spectra of solution and film of europium complexes, the maximal excited wavelength form film of a europium complexes had a blue shift of 60nm than one form the same europium complexes.Electroluminescent studies indicated that: the brightness of OLED depended strongly on the structures of europium complexes. In addition, the brightness of OLED related to the energy transfer between host ant gust molecules. It was true that the luminescence properties of europium complexes could be optimized by modifying the structures of ligands.
