Relative to the traditional activated carbon powder, shapedactivated carbon has higher bulk density, strength and unit volumespecific surface area. So it has great advantage in storage andtransportation, and has a wide prospect of research and application.For activated carbon has large pore structure and special surfacespecialty, it has strong adsorption capability of harmful substance. Italways be made of shaped composite activated carbon together withother environmental protection materials using in the environmentalprotection domain including of sewage purification and harmful gasadsorption. The shaped composite activated carbon has theadvantages that the every component doesn't have when they areused separately. Surveying the methods of making shaped activatedcarbon, the method that make shaped activated carbon by adhesivehas the advantages that technique is simple without the treatment of high temperature carbonization and activation. The shaped activatedcarbon made by this method has the advantages that intensity is highand specific surface area is large. So this method gets broad attention.But the adhesives using in shaped activated carbon including organicand inorganic adhesives all have bug that can't be conquered easily.So they have many limitations in the application of making shapedactivated carbon.In this paper, I try to prepare a kind of organic-inorganiccomposite adhesive by sol-gel, and compound the organic adhesiveand definite inorganic auxiliary agent together. The adhesive makingby this method integrates the advantages of organic and inorganicincluding of good cementation capability, excellent affinity with carbonpowder, the ability of enduring high temperature and high stability. Ienhance the water resistance and improve the porosity of theadhesive by importing inorganic auxiliary agent into the organicadhesive. I also research the influence of different burden scales ofreactants to the water resistance, microcosmic structure and porediameters of the adhesive. The compound mechanism of the adhesiveis also discussed. At the same time, I try to use the adhesive in theprocess of making a kind of shaped composite activated carbon, and research the influence of different mass ration of adhesive and carbonpowder to specific surface area, pore volume, pore diameters andmicrocosmic structure of shaped composite activated carbon. I alsouse the shaped composite activated carbon in the process of sewagetreatment, and review its treatment result of Cr2O72-.
