With the rapid development of technology, the requirement of the precision and surface quality of parts is progressing. It is well known that surface quality of parts has great influence on the operational performance such as wearing quality, figure strength and contact stiffness. Being the key part of locomotive and car motors and other gas engines, the surface quality and mechanical performance are demanded highly. With great potential, Electrochemical Mechanical Finishing(ECMF) may improve the surface quality and operating performance of parts effectively.Based on the former research, this paper studies the ECMF. Also, according to the requirement of surface roughness of E style camshaft from Dalian Locomotive Plant, the ECMF is applied to cam's surface. Firstly, the equation of outline curvilinear of the cam is deduced based on the follower's type, dimension and lift table. Secondly, the technology of ECMF to cam is studied based on its basic laws.In order to meet the requirement of machining and modern production, numeric control technology is introduced to the non-traditional fields. The project of "PC+motion control card" is chosen in the control system. Firstly, numeric control model of finishing to cam is studied. Secondly, the hardware construction of control system is designed. Thirdly on the base of hardware design, the system software is programmed with VC ++ language. According to the requirement of machining, the whole structure of the system software is completed, and all function modules are accomplished. The technology of Electrochemical Mechanical Finishing to cam based on computer control is developed in the paper. This technology may not only meet the requirement of machining accuracy, but also improve the surface quality greatly. Surface roughness of cam machined by this technology could reach Ra0.029μm. The technology is relatively simple and easy to be automotive, also it has broad prospects in application fields.
