The pure epoxy resin (EP) shows some shortcoming in tribological property with higher friction coefficient and wear rate, which limits its applications in the area of wearable composites. Therefore, it is necessary to combine the basalt fibers and epoxy resin to improve the friction and wear performance. In this paper, Epoxy resin composites filled with basalt fibers were prepared by proper curing, using KH-550 silane coupling agent to enhance the interfacial bonding between the inorganic reinforcing agent and the polymer matrix. And the tribological and mechanical behavior of composites has been studied. Meanwhile, the friction and wear mechanism of composites has also been discussed.Nano-SiO2/EP composites were prepared by adding the nanosize SiO2 particle, prepared by sol-gel method, into epoxy resin. The mechanical and tribological properties were tested. The worn surface and tribological mechanism were investigated by means of SEM. The results showed that SiO2 sharply reduced the friction coefficient and wear rate. As The addition of SiO2, the tensile strength of composites is much higher than the pure resin. Increase the content of nano particles results in the fall of wear rate. Optimal proportion of standard SiO2/epoxy resin-based composite is 4 %. And the SEM indicated that wear mechanisms are mainly abrasive wear and adhesive wear including light fatigue wear. The chopped basalt fiber (CHBF) was used to prepare CHBF/EP composites. And the tensile strength and tribological performance of composites have been researched. The experiment results indicated that, compared to pure resin, tensile strength was increased by adding the fiber, but the elongation of CHBF/EP composites was decreased. Wear resistance of composites has been improved, and the use of KH-550 silane coupling agent have significant influence on tribological properties of the composites. The continuous basalt fiber (COBF), meanwhile, was employed to make COBF/EP composite. The bending strength and tribological performance of composites have been tested. Through analyzing the results, it was found that the friction coefficient of COBF/EP composite was lower and steadier than that of CHBF/EP composite. The water absorption test shows that the lowest resin content is 25%. As the resin content increased, the anti-bending behavior was enhanced in some degree. Simultaneity, friction coefficient becomes higher and the wear rate steadily ascends while it is close to the wear rate of pure resin. The content of resin contributed to the wear mechanism, and the wear was mostly controlled by particle abrasion.
