Coal mine safety monitoring technology is an important guarantee for the safety of coal production. Whereas the technical limitations of using existing security monitoring equipments and the special environment of equipments working, the performance of such equipments need to be further improved. Based on studying wireless sensor networks deeply and combing the reference of various technical standards of mine safety monitoring equipment, so coal mine safety monitoring and person localization system which based on wireless sensor networks designed will avoid coal mine accidents and making mine staff more safety.Studying the mine safety monitoring technology at home and abroad deeply and analysis the status of China's coal mine safety monitoring equipment, the program of coal mine safety monitoring and the person localization System which based on wireless sensor networks was designed. The program described the system architecture, the functions of the various parts, and performance indicators. The program of safety monitoring and person localization system would guide the development to all parts of the system; To meet the coal mine working environment, based on the existing node of wireless sensor networks, the node used CC2420 for RF Communications Module. According to the actual needs of the environment, node's hardware was with the electrocircuit of gas,temperature sensors. While the module of person localization, data acquisition, data processing and data transceiver were designed; By doing researches and analysis on the network topology and connectivity in mine, and learned the classic routing protocol of wireless sensor network, the layered routing protocol which based on effectiveness of distance was designed. The protocol establishes the routing by the minimum distance between the nodes, the ideas of layered protocol would be more useful in the network topology. Considered the reliability of network communication, the idea of multi-path was found. By omnet + + simulation test, the protocol in routing establishment, maintenance and data transmission hops etc. have good performance. To meet the need of mine staff localization, the algorithm of synergic localization is based on RSSI. The location algorithm used the geographical coordinates within the nodes, in accordance with primary and secondary nodes, using maximum likelihood estimation method for calculation the position of node. Simulation results show that the localization accuracy is desired as before.In the design of coal mine safety monitoring and person localization system, the layered routing protocol based on effectiveness of distance and the algorithm of synergic localization based on RSSI were designed. The two solved the problems of the wireless sensor networks used in the mine monitoring; the system of coal mine safety monitoring and person localization system which is based on wireless sensor networks was achieved.
