Design is a mankind's creative activity with a higher level of intelligence, and the modern product design is based on knowledge. The development of the new product that based on knowledge is the core of competition of the enterprise's technology in the 21st century. So applying the Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE) technology to design fields has important theoretical significance and practical valuation.In the hole processing of the modern mechanical manufacturing industry, twist drill is the main cutting tool in the drilling process. The integration between the three-dimensional design of the twist drill and the KBE technology which is the focused researching subject in worldwide range is the mainstream development trend of the CAD system of tools. The three-dimensional design module of the twist drill based on knowledge driven can integrate complicated and multifarious experience of the experts into the computer, and reuse a lot of already exist knowledge automatically. In this case, the strong dependence on the man-machine interaction design approach is reduced, the construction of three-dimensional geometry model is implemented automatically, and the market responding ability and the new product development efficiency of the enterprise is improved obviously. Therefore, the market competition is won.In this thesis, the three-dimensional design of twist drill is taken as the research object, through studying the basic theories and key technology about KBE, the KBE system framework of the three-dimensional design of twist drill is put forward. On this basic, all kinds of knowledge are distilled from the twist drill product design standards, research data and expert experience to construct the product knowledge base of the twist drill, and the implemented route of the KBE technology is given in this system. The knowledge base of the twist drill is expressed by rules and classes in UG/KF(UG/Knowledge Fusion) language, at the same time, combined the UG three-dimensional modeling technology, realized the fast design of the three- dimensional solid of the twist drill.This thesis develop product design prototype system in UGNX3.0 software, and the knowledge-based engineering language (KF languages) is used as development tool, haven finished some module as three-dimensional modelling of KBE interface realization of twist drill, the choice of the grinding parameter of the drill point etc. Through the rapid design of the three-dimensional model of the twist drill, it is very convenient to the CAM/CAPP of the twist drill, analyze the strength and stiffness of the twist drill with finite element method, and analyze the drilling process with some analysis softwares.Finally, the work and achievement of this paper is summarized, the further research and developing direction is also introduced.
