As scientific technology and socio-economic progress, the production of human activities, our way of life make a constantly increasing impact on the ecological system, and bring various problems of the ecological environment. So come into being a serious crisis on the future sustainable development of human society, and arouse people's great concern. The global environment is an indivisible whole, at the same time that we study the eco-environmental quality in the global scope, should also focus on regional environmental quality. Road is a long-distance, large-scale artificial landscape, when it disjoins the terrain, make a far-reaching and irreversible impact on the ecological environment along it. So it is also very necessary to evaluate the quality of the ecological environment of roadside.Author made the section of Changsha-Xiangtan in National Road 107 as the object of study in the article, selected the panchromatic and multi-spectral remote sensing images of SPOT-5 as the primary data sources, made an analysis, interpretation, classification, statistics to images by ERDAS IMAGINE8.5- a software of remote sensing image processing, educed the information that is relevant to quality evaluation of the ecological environment, refers to the Nation Environment Protection Administration promulgated "Evaluation of Ecological Environment of the Technical Specifications (for Trial)" in 2006, and made a study on eco-environmental quality evaluation of roadside. After this paper, arrived at the following conclusions:Firstly, expounded on the characteristics of roadside eco-environmental quality assessment based on the remote sensing, pointed out the existing problems at the facet of selecting targets in the process of ecological environment quality evaluation at present, advanced the principle of selecting targets that is suitable for roadside Eco-environmental quality assessment by remote sensing instruments, and possess its own characteristics. Accordingly, selected the biological abundance index, the vegetation coverage index, the density of water and land degradation index, and made a quantitative evaluation on the quality of the ecological environment of roadside. It changed the qualitative evaluation methods that has been using in the past.Secondly, roadside eco-environmental quality assessment is more in-depth than research of environmental quality in quantitative aspects, Expanded the application of the eco-environmental theory and remote sensing technology. The researches making use of remote sensing technology in roadside eco-environmental quality assessment provided the necessary theory, method and Practical experience for roadside eco- environmental in-depth study.Lastly, by applying the results of roadside eco-environmental quality assessment, Provided a theoretical basis and facts for the construction and protection of roadside eco-environment, made the construction of roadside eco-environment to be provided with pertinence and maneuverability. This avails that people understand, concern and protect the road eco-environment.In this paper, achieved to evaluate the roadside eco-environmental quality by remote sensing, It's advantage is far more than the traditional method of evaluation, has a great promotion prospects. In the process of ecological environment quality evaluation, study area is more general, highway mileage may specially be very long, This will bring an extremely difficulty to the traditional evaluation methods. Whereas application of high-tech remote sensing offers a great convenience for acquiring the information of evaluation index., saved human and material resources, also greatly improved the efficiency of the study, it is particularly important to some remote areas (mountains). In addition, remote sensing images possess high spatial resolution, multi-spectral, multi-temporal, and the renewal rapid is fast. So we can carry through dynamic monitoring and forecast of environmental change based on static eco-environment quality assessment.
