Coal and land are both important natural resources for humankind. As is known to all, coal mine makes a significant contribution to economic and social development of the county, but it also causes extensive collapse and desert soil, which produces adverse effect on the ecological environment and agricultural production of mining area. It is obvious that these circumstances hamper the regional economic development and living standards of the people. Since the problem of coal mine subsidence can not be efficiently solved by traditional reclamation, a better plan for the area's sustainable development is a matter of great urgency. And being made on the basis of local natural conditions and resources, by means of redeveloping and eco-rehabilitation, the plan ought to be the best approach to ecological, social and economic benefit.Zhunger County coal field is located in the northwest of China, which belongs to arid or partly-arid climate zone with weak ecosystem and naturally inadequate water resources. Years of continued coal mining has lead to grave consequences, such as extensive subsidence, large decline of groundwater level and serious ecocide problems. After consulting present situation and future trends both at home and abroad, we made this research, taking Zhunger County coal field as the object of study. First, we analyze the coal field's natural conditions (including its climate features, soil and hydrologic regime, vegetative cover, loss of soil and water, ecological structure) and social-economic conditions. Second, we point out the situation of Zhunger County coal field's subsidence, analyze the cause of formation and the type, introduce the management and expanding forecast there. At last, taking sustainable development theory and recycle economy theory as the guiding ideology, through field geologic survey, field in-situ test, method of positivistic and comparative analysis, integrating theory with practice, we finally build a new recycle economic industry chain for mining area, and design eco-rehabilitation modes appropriate to individual types of coal mine subsidence. We also probe into the necessity of building political and legal supporting system in the above-mentioned area. In conclusion, this article provides a beneficial reference plan for the mine subsidence's sustainable development.
