Furniture has experienced changes of thousands of years in the history of human being. In the process of evolution from traditional furniture to modern furniture, it expressed the degree of civilization and trails of development of each age. To date, furniture has become a necessity in our daily life. The creativity in furniture design promotes furniture to better serve by satisfying requirements in the modern life both from physical and spiritual aspects. The increasing development of present gluing technology is beneficial for the promotion of creativity in furniture design.Gluing technology has substantial impacts on furniture industry in the long time, especially in furnishing and styling. Nonetheless, until recent dozens of years, the progressive development of civil chemical technology prompted the advent of adhesive exclusive in wood processing industry. From then on, the application of adhesive in furniture industry has gained phenomenal growth. Considering its own instability and the limitation of dangerous ingredients and improvement of consumers'environmental awareness, higher requirements have placed on the choice and application of adhesive in wood processing industry whilst the final purpose is to better implement techniques aesthetics in furniture industry.Researchers of modern furniture industry in China have done a wide range of continuous studies on furniture design and the application of adhesive technology in furniture industry. However, few researches have been found to systematically relate gluing technology and furniture design to a specific application. This study contributes to narrowing this knowledge gap. This study first addresses the development of the application of adhesive in wood processing industry, and then investigates the relationships of science and arts, techniques and arts. Finally, it examines the application of adhesive in furniture design and manufacturing process and technology for green adhesive. The major purpose of this study is to investigate specifically and systematically the types and manufacturing techniques of various adhesive in furniture firms and the implications for the way that furniture designers develop new products into the new millennium.This study contributes to addressing the possibility of combining furniture design and gluing technology and the realization of techniques aesthetics in wood processing industry and use the knowledge generated from experiences and the study to provide recommended applicable theory and operation approaches for promoting furniture industry into a healthy, sustainable and harmonious development.
