The purpose of this paper is to explore the future direction of Chinese furnituredesign; study side by comparison method, analysis, compared with the Scandinavianfurniture, Chinese traditional furniture, Ming furniture as an example here; outcomeof this paper is to analyze the Chinese tradition six reasons not able to continue thedevelopment of furniture; conclusion is contemporary Chinese furniture designershould inherit Chinese traditional aesthetics, the design of new Chinese furniture.The status of our country in the furniture manufacturing industry rely on internationalcompetition advantage of low prices, did not bring the design to enhance the productvalue, while others in the international industrial design developed countries are goingthrough a good design to compete. Thus seen, under the circumstances forcebalanced manufacturing competitiveness among major international design contest.So, in this development process, we should go to learn and understand moredeveloped countries design experience.Scandinavian designers only focus on product functionality, but also stressedpeople-oriented design, Scandinavian furniture design experience guidingsignificance for us, today’s modern Scandinavian furniture, only a short history ofthe development for centuries, but swept the world, the world-famous, thanks itsminimalist design, the concept of people-oriented, functional, comfortable feel,these are worthy of our study. However, historical experience also tells us that theWest did not make blind study of Chinese furniture will be renewed, but led to thedecline of Chinese furniture. Therefore, we should find our own style in the course ofthis study, that the new Chinese style furniture.Our contemporary furniture should be under Chinese traditional aesthetic norms,the use of modern materials and technology, the interpretation of the essence oftraditional Chinese culture, so the furniture exudes a Chinese flavor, yet elegant,dignified character, but also has a distinctly modern features, more emphasis onoriginality awareness furniture. Although the new Chinese furniture from the Mingand Qing classical furniture absorb nutrients, but is still considered a new concept offurniture design, should be placed in perspective to locate its original design goals.Cultural and environmental aspects of traditional culture should be applied to themodern design language environment to make furniture with traditional cultural spirit,it is also able to reflect modernity, originality and freshness.
