Floating head heat exchanger is used at large in the petroleum industry and chemical plant.The quality of the heat exchanger affects direct the safety and economy benefit of the petroleum industry and chemical plant. At present,the floating head heat exchanger's fault caused by various matters has brought on the material waste,and polluted the environment.At the same time,faults have affected the progress of the equipment and the economy benefit.Therefore,the failure of floating head heat exchanger can not be neglected in the manufacture.Applying to fault analysis,the paper adopts mostly metallographic analysis and wreckage analysis to find out basic causes of floating head heat exchangers,from designing,manufacturing,setting,operating, examining and repairing,and so on.Thus,the fault tree has been built objectively by listing basic causes.And,the paper has found out the main faults of floating head heat exchangers by qualitative analysis.According to the result of qualitative analysis,some pertinent measures will be adopted,and safety check table and safety control system will be built,which will offer the basis of floating head exchangers' running maintenance and running normally.According to the analysis,the designer will find out the system weakness and focus there basic events during the design process,thus the reliability and safety of floating head heat exchangers will be improved essentially in design phase,which is the main purpose of the paper.At the same time,perfecting safety check table and adding emergency plan of accident to safety control system,which will make the safety control system be hierarchy and pertinence,achieve the aim to optimizing the floating head exchanger,and decreasing the failure of floating head heat exchangers.
