Application Of Patterns On Clothing Design

Pattern, as an ornamental art, is an art form being of both decorativeness and practicability and clothing pattern is its perfect incarnation. Being the concentration of nature and crystallization of wisdom, clothing pattern creates visual impact and art inspiration by luxuriant colors and unique conformation and finally manifests itself sufficiently by means of dress.By analysis and exploration of development and importance of dress design, this paper is to define the status and role of clothing pattern in dress design and then analyze the content and significance of the research. This paper also analyzes the features and functions of clothing pattern in dress by discussing the characteristics and categorization of clothing pattern. This paper explores and analyzes the elements of clothing pattern design. Firstly the paper discusses color and its design methods in clothing pattern and defines the relationship between clothing pattern and color. The paper dissertates the constituents of clothing pattern and the relationship between the position and composition of the constituents. Thirdly the paper discusses styles of the constituents and the ways to achieve the styles. Finally the paper treats of ways to make the clothing patterns be in close coordination with different dress styles and summarizes some choices for clothing patterns and dress styles to match each other and the styles involved in the choices, which may be of reference for application of clothing patterns in various dress styles in China.The paper, through a series of research on clothing patterns, enriches material and methods of modern dress design and provide some theoretical basis for development and application of clothing patterns to dress design.
