Polyepoxysuccinic acid is acknowledged green water treatment agent and new alternative in the world. Polyepoxysuccinic acid not only has double performance of scale and corrosion inhibition but also has performance of scale inhibition and disperation. Its property of scale inhibition has been studied much more than other properties of PESA. In recent years,It appears much research about epoxysuccinic acid copolymer which contains epoxysuccinic acid and other acids.But there is no research about the copolymerization of epoxysuccinic acid and maleic acid.It has been studied about the preparation of epoxysuccinic acid and maleic acid and the research of scale inhibition.In this study, effect of initiator, temperature and time on products showed that different relative molecular weight were obtained by means of changing these factors.The standard method was used to study the connection between the scale inhibition and the relative molecular weight of PESA. It had been found that when the relative molecular weight changed, the properties changed also.When the relative molecular weight of PESA is in the range 600 to 1000, the scale inhibitions are best. When the relative molecular weight of PESA is lower than 500 or higher than 1000, the scale inhibition becomes worse.Inhibition of PESA for calcium carbonate has been studied, the result show that when the relative molecular weight of PESA is in the range 800 to 1000, the scale inhibitions are best, reach 100%.The results show that the optimum reaction conditions are as follows: The weight ratio of monomer was ESA:MA=3:2, 5.0% catalyst, 75-85℃, and 6-8 hours of synthesis. When the dosage of inhibitor is over 10 mg/L, the scaling inhibition percentage on barium sulfate can reach 100%.The composition was proposed by means of Infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance .As a result,it has proposed the response of the epoxy succinic acid copolymer.
