The steam tight degree (SD) is an important parameter of piston ring, it determines the efficiency of internal-combustion engine. The light leak degree (LD) between the piston ring and the standard gauge is used to reflect the SD domestically. So far the LD inspection is handwork in our country, which is such a heavy work with a low efficiency and an unreliable result. This situation disturbs the level of the piston ring production, as while as the development of the internal-combustion engine industrial. To remodel this situation and realize the automation of the LD inspection, this paper studies on the technology of piston ring LD inspection and raises a method which aims at the LD inspection of the train's piston ring(the diameter from 240mm to 280mm). Experimental equipment is designed based on this method, as well as an automatic LD inspection machine. The experimental data indicates that the equipment has high precision and good dependability which made it completely meet the demand of industrial automation.The main work of the thesis includes the following four aspects:1. Study on the traits and difficulties of LD inspection.2. Design the experimental equipment of LD inspection which includes the mechanism and the software of data acquirement and process.3. Do the feasibility experiment of this method and analyze the precision and repetition of the experimental equipment.4. Design the holistic project of the automatic LD inspection and selection machine.
