Combining with the practical manufacture status in Binzhou Bohai Piston Co. Ltd., this thesis achieved a systemic study on the cutting tools for machining the Al-Si alloy piston ring groove.On the basis of cutting tests and practices, the relationship between the cutting tool life and the cutting parameters and the cutter's geometrical parameters have been investigated, the width of cemented carbide tool cutting edge of the piston ring groove has been determined by tests and practices. By the test results and theories, the wear mechanism of the cutting tool and the extrusion mechanism between the cutting tool and the machined surface of workpiece in cutting piston ring grooves have been researched.The Polycrystalline diamond(PCD) has been applied widely in industrial fields as a new cutting tool material of high hardness and good wear-resistance. This thesis designed a type of PCD groove cutter by means of piston ring groove function.PCD piston ring groove cutter, material section of PCD in PCD groove cutter and the cutter's geometrical parameters have been researched. But its superhardness and high wear-resistance make it difficult to be grinded. High grinding cost and low grinding efficiency restrict its popularity.To improve grinding efficiency and to reduce grinding costs are important and difficult fields for...
