Isonicotinoyl hydrazine, salicyloyl hydrazine and 2,3-butanedione were used to synthesise rare earth bis-Schiff base complexs in this dissertation. Three new complexes were finally synthesized and structurally characterized.(1) A crystalline complex [(LaL)(NO3)3(CH3CH2OH)]·(CH3CH2OH)3 was synthesized by reaction of 2,3-butanedione, isonicotinoyl hydrazine and La(NO3)3·6H2O in CH3CH2OH. The complex was characterized by IR and UV spectral methods and X-ray single crystal diffraction.(2) Two crystalline complexs were synthesized by reaction of 2,3-butanedione, salicyloyl hydrazine and La(NO3)3·6H2O or Ce(NO3)3·6H2O in CH3CH2OH. The complexes were characterized both by IR and UV spectral methods and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The above comlexes are similar in structures and properties. They were eleven-coordinate. This coordination number is higher than ordinary ones of 8 or 9. This can be attributed to the characteristics of the dihydrazone ligands.
