Honing is a highly efficient method of hardened gear's precise machining. It plays a very important role in the gear precise manufacture. Therefore, improvement of honing technology is significant to gear precise manufacture.The tooth surface of ordinary honer is involute spiral surface. In the process of honing, the honer and gear is point contact, thus the efficiency is quite low and ability of honer is limited to display. Aimed at this deficiency, this paper do research on the design method of full cutting honer. The full cutting honer is a new type horning tool proposed on the basis of long-time gear manufacture's study. In the process of horning, the honer and the gear can achieve line contact, and cutting along their contracting line, causing all tooth surface of honer involved in the cutting (thus being called full cutting). Thus the cutting ability of honer is enhanced and the life of honer is extended. Research on this craft is subsidized by Shanxi Province science and technology project. This paper studies the tooth surface form of full cutting honer which mainly aimed at the standard involute gear.The tooth surface of full cutting honer is an envelope of the involute cylinder suface and its mathematical equation is quite complex. It is very difficult to modeling acroding to theory mathematical equation because the scope of parameter is hard to determine. In this paper a new method is adopted to accomplish the design of full cutting honer's matrix, which first builds model and then fits the honer's surface equation.The model of full cutting honer is designed on platform of AutoCAD. The principle of building model is: In the process of homing, the full cutting honer meshes with the gear in any time, so we can use this principle to realize the model building. The process of building model includes: building the gear's solid model—determining the spacial position of the full cutting honer and the standard involute gear—building honer model used VBA programming.Withdrawing data is still on the platform of AutoCAD. First a complete tooth is cutted down from the full cutting honer and sliced it into equal-thickness pieces, then processed it to minimal element in AutoCAD, finally withdraw each element's data using the VBA programming.Data processing and fitting is on the platform of MATLAB. Data processing includes: sorting the data, deleting the duplication of data and saving the data in matrix according to their spatial position. After dealing with the data, parameters pair of three spline surface methods is used to fit the data and the equation of honer tooth surface is obtained.Because the full cutting honer and its matrix is equal-space surface, therefore the data of matrix equals the data of full cutting honer subtracts thickness of in its on normal.
