The methods of preparing ceramic lined steel pipes by SHS-gravitational (Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis, for short SHS) process were comprehensively studied. The ceramic lined steel pipes with the small inner diameter (30mm) have been successfully made by SHS-gravitational method with (Al-Fe2O3-CuO) + SiO2 multiple thermit system, which were wildly used in the wearable and anti-corrosive fields.By preparing experiment, the influence on structure and performance caused by additive SiO2,CuO,SiCand filling density were investigated by using XRD, SEM, and optics microscope.The results of analysis show that the main phases of the ceramic were composed of a-Al2O3,a little FeAl2O4,Al2SiO5 and a bit of metal particle no separated. The intermediate metallic layer consisted of a phase (the solid solution of Cu in a-Fe) and Cu phase.The growth of main phase a-Al2O3 is intersectant, and FeAl2O4 is in the dendrite, Al2SiO5 is in the interphase of dendrite. A bit of Cu and Fe particle separate in the ceramic tissue. SiC exist in the ceramic tissue with particulate.We study the influence on the ceramic layer by adding some different additive(for example: SiO2,CuO,SiC),and by introducing the different thermit density, from factors as ceramic layer thickness, density, rigidity, corrupt weightless rate, and shear strength. We emphasize the study of the influence of CuO and SiC on ceramic layer compactness. Nano SiC is introduced to ceramic tissue, ulteriorly increase the compactness. of ceramic layer,and reduce the porosity of ceramic layer within 4%.
