Now, heat-sensitive materials are widely used, such as organic compounds, organic intermediates, fine chemical products, pharmaceuticals, flavors. Heat instability made the separation of the heat-sensitive materials very difficult, so, research on this topic is laid emphasis on gradually. This paper proposed and studied a new operation—the decentralized heating of batch stripping distillation. This new method was proposed to the question of separation for the heat-sensitive materials. By way of heating the column, this new mode obviously shortened the operation time of batch stripping, and it could also effectively lessened the hold-up, these advantages are very helpful in the separation of heat-sensitive materials. As a whole, this new operation is a very promising one and can be applied widely. In this paper, the experimental study investigated the decentralized heating of batch stripping distillation. Two mixtures were used , they were 1-propanol-isopropanol and ethanol-acetic acid. The aim of using the 1-propanol-isopropanol was to testify the advantages of decentralized heating on the hold-up and operation time primarily. The ethanol-acetic acid mixture was used to testify the advantage of decentralized heating on the reaction conversion and indirectly proved the effectiveness of the new operation for separation of heat-sensitive materials. This paper provided a model to simulate the process of decentralized heating of batch stripping distillation. Material and heat balance equations of condenser, trays, reboiler were studied and the simulation used two-point implicit method andθcorrector method. This paper took the 1-propanol-isopropanol mixture as an example to calculate the concentration of 1-propanol at the top, trays and bottom and made comparison to the experimental data. The results showed that the data of simulation and experiment were close agreeable.
