Because the honeycomb sandwich structure has many outstanding properties, such as larger stiffness, lighter weight, better sound and heat insulation, etc. They are widely applied in the fields of Aeronautics and Astronautics in recent years. Metallic honeycomb sandwich structure is one of the major substructures in the reusable metallic thermal protection system (MTPS) as load-bearing components. In this study, double-layer metallic honeycomb sandwich structure was designed for application as surface skin in TPS of electronic machine cabin of certain weapon, which has never been reported all over the world. Since deformation and stress are the main focuses for structural design, and which decide the quality of structure, therefore structural parameters concerning deformation and stress were optimized via the MATLAB software, and an optimum parameter group was obtained. Based on which, the finite element software ANSYS was used to build up a full-scale model and to analyze the static and dynamics for the structure.In the first chapter, the worldwide research status on honeycomb sandwich structures were overviewed, the evolution of optimization for metallic honeycomb sandwich structures were systematically analyzed and generalized.In the second chapter, sandwich laminar-board equivalent theory was adopted to study the double-layer metallic honeycomb sandwich structure, whose stiffness was taken as the constraint condition and weight minimization as the object function. Consequently, the structure was optimized by the MATLAB software to obtain the optimum dimension parameters for the structure.In the third chapter, a full-scale model was established by ANSYS FE software with optimized dimension parameters to analyze its deformation and stress behavior.In the fourth chapter, dynamic load changing with time was applied to the structure according to the actual application environment. Transient state dynamics was studied to analyze the load-bearing ability and mechanical behavior of the structure under dynamic loading.The characteristic of this paper is that it optimized and designed the double-layer metallic honeycomb sandwich structure for the first time, it built up a full- scale model to precisely describe characteristics of the honeycomb structure and it analyzed both static and dynamic mechanical behavior of the structure. And finally satisfying results were obtained. Accordingly, the analysis results in this paper could be valuable for the design of double-layer honeycomb sandwich structure.
