Synthetic lubricants produced by polymerization of olefins in presence of certain catalysts have received much attention owing to their excellent performance. In this paper, the catalytic performance of titanium tetrachloride promoted by diethylaluminum chloride in oligomerization of decene to prepare lubricant is studied.Effects of reaction conditions on properties of polymer alpha-olefin oil(PAO) are investigated. In addition, different catalysts and olefins are compared. The results show that the yield of PAO increases with increasing catalyst amount, solvent polarity, reaction temperature and time, however,it decreases with increasing mole ratio of alumina to titanium.Prepared PAO from this method has high Viscosity Index(Ⅵ).Kinematic at 100℃(v100℃) increases with increasing mole ratio of alumina to titanium. As a result, the viscosity of polymer alpha-olefin oil(PAO) can be controlled by adjusting the mole ratio of alumina to titanium. In addition, effect on the properties of PAO which prepared by differenceα-olefins is investigated. The results show that PAO prepared from C5∨C14α-olefins has high viscosity index, but its viscosity and yield are very low.Although high yield and good performance of PAO can be obtained from C8~C13α-olefins,large amount of catalyst is required. However, high PAO yield is obtained from C7~C12α-olefins(CNPC Fushun Petrochemical) under low amount catalyst and mild reaction conditions.Furthermore, the viscosity of PAO can be controlled by controlling the mole ratio of A1 to Ti.From above discussions,we can safely conclude that C7~C12α-olefins(CNPC Fushun Petrochemical) is more appropriate for preparing PAO than others. The PAO yield is as high as 78.1%under following reaction conditions:the amount of catalyst=8.0 wt.%, the mole ratio of Al to Ti=4,the reaction temperature=80℃,the reaction time =4 h. Viscosity at 100℃(v100℃) and Viscosity Index(Ⅵ) of the PAO are 56.7 mm2·s-1 and 264,respectively.
