Ink-jet printing technology can get better print quality with lower cost, and easy to achieve digital and color management. The quality evaluation of the ink-jet printing image becomes very important as the ink-jet printing technology widely used. The steps of current evaluation methods based on the space are tedious and one-sided assessment. So it is necessary for us to have a research on a simple, comprehensive evaluation method. The focus of the study is evaluating the quality of ink-jet printing images based on MTF. Firstly , A transmission and reflection model of semi-reflective image is introduced. The transmission and reflection functions are get from the model. Three methods of calculating the MTF based on the transmission and reflection model are deduced form the basic theory of MTF: sinusoidal method, single pixel line method and step image method. The MTF of paper and MTF of ink are also deduced from the basic theory. Finally, the experimental figure is input and calculated using the deduced formula. The results are MTFpr, MTFi, MTFp, the spread function of paper and the spread function of ink corresponding to four different kinds of paper and the point spread function of paper, ink the point spread function. The printing effect of the papers are evaluated using the results. The accuracy of the evaluation method and the correction of the model are verified by through the experiment,and it provides a reasonable basis for forecasting the ink-jet print quality.
