The dot coverage is the key that decides the color and tone of the inkjet presswork. Therefore, it's a very important to predict the dot coverage of the presswork and control quality in inkjet printing. However, the classic and the amendatory Murray-Davies dot coverage forecast model have not took the ink and the transmission of the paper as a basic factor and considered into the model there directly, This is clearly inconsistent with the actual printing. This dissertation attempts to introduce in light transmission factor directly to establish a new Murray-Davies dot coverage forecast model.First of all, we have analyed the properties of the ink-jet printing machinery, ink, paper and the characteristics of ink-jet printing process. In addition, I have considered the reflection and transmission of the ink layer and paper on basis optical theory of light spread on the printed surface, and thus dot coverage prediction model has been established applicable to ink-jet printing. Second, the influence on the prediction model of dot coverage induced by the dot gain has been proposed, so we amended the model to improve prediction accuracy. Finally, experiments carried out to verify the new model and the model was proved to be scientific and applied.
