The explicit dynamic code DYNA3D is used to simulate the process of box deep drawing. Predictions from simulations are analyzed and discussed against the corresponding experimental results. The effects of the material parameters on the stamping of sheet metal are studied. The effects of the process parameters on the sheet metal forming processes are discussed. The effects of the simulation parameters on the result of simulation are discussed. The predominant failure mode in stamping of sheet metal parts are wrinkling and fracture. In general, these defects may be eliminated by appropriate manipulated the blank-holder forces. The blankholder force is one of the process parameters, which is able to control effectively the flow of the metal into the die cavity and to improve quality of the workpieces. In this paper, the effects on the formability of box deep drawing forming process which was applied the variable blankholder force (VBHF) were investigated. The numerical simulation result indicates that the variable blankholder force can improve the formability of box deep drawing forming process. The forming processes of two automotive stamped parts are simulated.
