Research On Tool Management System For DNC Workshop

Tool is one of the most active production factors in DNC workshop. All functional departments in the workshop is closely related to tool management. The manufacturing efficiency might be affected by tool management. Implementation of an effective Tool Management System will reduce tool cost and inventory, decrease machine downtime, and improve the quality of the parts being produced. In addition, proper tool management will increase the production automation level, and enhance the flexibility of manufacturing activities.The roles and effects of tool in modern manufacturing activities are discussed. The Tool Management System for DNC Workshop is studied based upon the analysis of shortcomings of traditional tool management mode.Firstly, through the investigation of communication technologies for DNC, the communication model based on serial port is established, and the implementation of DNC communication is described.Secondly, after the total demand analysis of Tool Management System for DNC Workshop, the configuration model, operating process model and functional model are founded respectively, the system structure is designed, and the information integrating mode with Management System for Workshop is discussed.Thirdly, the development and realization of Tool Management System for DNC Workshop are introduced detailedly, including: the establishment of tool coding mechanism, the design of tool database, the implementation of each functional module, the storing & display of tool photos.Next, the running instances of DNC communication and Tool Management System for DNC Workshop are presented, and their application examples are given.Finally, research efforts and findings are generalized, and some suggestions for further study are given.
