PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) is a new kind of thermoplastic polymer with excellent comprehensive properties, such as flame-retardant and high temperature-resistance. In this paper, the spinning process of PEEK filaments were studied, and various performances of the filaments and fabric were investigated.Two kinds of Victrex-PEEK resins were compared in spinnability, and PEEK-2 resin with lower melt viscosity shows better spinnability with a appropriate spinning-temperature of 360℃~390℃and a winding speed of more than 700m/min. With the use of spinning heating channel and the decrease of spinning-stretch ratio, the orientation factor of the as-spun PEEK fibers decreased, the drawability and the mechanical properties increased. The draw ratio of the as-spun PEEK fibers is up to 3.2~3.5 at the drawing temperature of 270℃and the drawing speed of 300m/min.The breaking strength of the drawn PEEK fiber is up to 6.6cN/dtex, the breaking elongation percentage is 12.6%, and the moisture content is 2.19%; the breaking strength of the PEEK fabric is up to 785.0N, the breaking elongation percentage is 34.6 %, and the average abrasion resistance of the fabric was 6785 times. After a heat aging at 270℃for 1200 hours, the PEEK fibers yellowed and become brittle, but the breaking strength retains 79.7%, and the breaking strength of the fabric retains 88.8%. Also the flame-retardant properties of PEEK fabric were studied by verticat flammability test, smoke density test and cone calorimeter test, the results shows that, PEEK fabric was difficult to ignite, once burning the flame spreaded slowly, the largest smoke density Ds is 2.06, and at the heat eradiate intensity of 75 kW/m~2, the maximum heat relase rate was 183 kW/m~2, the maximum proportion of poisonous gas CO is 9ppm, little smoke was gave out, also the combustion residue of PEEK fabric was rather compactive.
