With the increasing of ethanol gasoline being used in our daily life, some problems were getting more and more serious, such as its phase separation problem, we must pay much more attention to them. There are three ways to solve the phase separation problem of ethanol gasoline. The first is to strictly control the content of water in it. The second is to substitute MTBE with another substance which has low water absorption. The last is to enter some additive into ethanol gasoline, it can improve the solubility of water in ethanol gasoline. In this paper, some additives were studied in order to solve the phase separation problem of ethanol gasoline. The phase separation temperature was used to measure the phase separation of ethanol gasoline. The lower of the phase separation temperature shows the stronger capability of water of Ethanol gasoline. The phase separation temperature was measured with the method of ASTM D 6422-99.The mechanism of phase separation was investigated in theory and by molecular simulation. 12 kinds of additives were selected, one was eucalyptus oil, the others come from petrochemicals.. After experiments, 7 better additives left. Then, the combination effect was studied. Finally, the best mixing additives were found. Experimental results showed that if content of the mixing additive is 3%, content of water is 0.5%, the phase separation temperature of ethanol gasoline with 10% ethanol were lower than -38℃. It means that this kind of ethanol gasoline can be used in most area of China in any time.
