In this paper, in order to promote the compete ability of the products on the market, performance enhancement of Cr polyethylene product were investigation to resolve the quality problem existing in the Cr polyethylene resin producted by Dushanzi Petrochemical Company.For grade HD5420GA, most complains are about its balance between toughness and stiffness that results in poor performance of its big hollow container product, which can only be used as common chemical barrel instead of hazardous chemicals packing barrel. For grade HD5502GA, the most complained are its low stress crack resistance and solvent resistance, and much-to-be-expected processability. To solve these problems, the company compared and analyzed the similar domestic Cr polyethylene products through cooperation with Chemical Institute of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in combining the CAS's predominance of scientific research in microstructure analysis and characterization. The comparative analysis was performed from various aspects, i.e., from resin inherent molecular structure, coacervation configuration, physicochemical properties etc. so as to identify causes for the discrepancy and to forward the practical solutions and to provide analytic data as well as theoretical support for operation adjustment. In production, toughness of HD5502GA and HD5420GA has been improved after study by increasing the quantity of hexane co-monomer to reduce the density properly. Thus the quality of Cr products has been improved which was applauded by the customers as well as gain more competitive edge for the products.
