Konjac fly powder is a kind of by-product in konjac processing, which contains a lot of starch, protein, fat, cellulose, minerals and other nutrients. Making fully use of these nutrients can not only solve pollution problems after konjac processing but also enhance the comprehensive the development and utilization of konjac, increase its economic and social benefits, and contribute to Chinese rapid development of konjac resources. We explored the laboratory and small test conditions of fuel ethanol production by fermentation of konjac fly powder through the strain which can utilize konjac fly powder and the yeast. The main results are mentioned in the following part. One strain, F22, which could utilize konjac fly powder is successfully screened. When comparing with Mucor, we found that our strain shares the same character with it. So we identified the strain as Mucor preliminary. Through UV mutagenesis to F22, we obtained YBⅡ, which make the utilization of starch up to 90 % and the content of reducing sugar increase 5.7 times after fermentation, also alcohol concentration achieve 3 % after fermentation joined with the yeast. To test the best condition for YBⅡculture, flask liquid-state fermentation experiments were carried out. We found that in temperature 30℃, initial pH 5, ratio inoculation of 8 %, liquid volume of 100 mL/250 mL, and incubation time 48 h, the best results would be played. The content of reducing sugar could up to about 19 mg/mL, andstarch utilization could rate reach 93 %, in addition the biomass achieved about 2.0×10~6/mL.Based on above study, we optimized the condition of producing alcohol from konjacfly powder using simultaneous solid fermentation with YBⅡand yeast in laboratory test. The ratio of YBⅡand yeast is 1:2, konjac fly powder vs water is 1:3, inoculation is 8 %,fermentation temperature is 30℃, and samples fermented for 3 d. In this process , thealcohol concentration of fermentation broth can up to 7.14 %.On the basis of research on fermentation conditions in the laboratory, we undertooksmall test of production of fuel ethanol by konjac fly powder, the most suitable conditionswere almostly the same as the previous one except the fermentation time, it lasted 5 days.In the research, the alcohol concentration achieve to 7.04 % especially the same as outputin laboratory test.
