Automotive enterprises shorten product development cycle time and reduce costs through increasing uses of CAPP/CAE system.Currently, the integration of CAPP and CAE is needed urgently.Hence,UG based stamping CAPP/CAE integration system for automotive panels are researched in this paper. The current status, remaining problems and developing trend of the CAPP/CAE system of stamping process are discussed. By the integration of the 3D modeling system and FEM technique, the transfer of data between the CAPP system and CAE system is realized. The information for the optimization of process design is extracted and could be used to instruct and optimize the process design. This paper discusses the theories related to finite element analysis. Based on the analysis of the stamping process, mould design and numerical simulation of panels, the author proposes a new method for the optimization of process design of panels and realizes the control and optimization of the design of trim line and blank shapes.Based on the theoretical research, a stamping CAPP/CAE integration system for automotive panels has been developed on UG platform, and some key techniques such as the FEM mesh generation, the model transformation and the post-processing are also discussed in detailed. By developing the interface procedure of the model transformation, the finite element model was successfully transformed between CAPP system and CAE system without distortion. Application shows that fast optimum design and forming simulation can be verified in the integration system, so it can be applied to the optimal design of self-adaptive process planning for automotive panels, and quality and efficiency of process plans are improved. The system is proven to be practical by several design cases.
