Non-thermal plasma catalysis for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) treatment is considered to be a high-tech development in the future. Compared with the traditional approach, this technology has many advantages in VOCs treatment. Such as low energy consumption, with the catalyst at room temperature, without heating, thus saving energy; does not produce byproduct and radioactive material; particularly suit to treat VOCs with low concentrations. In this paper, we use non-thermal plasma generating by high voltage nanosecond pulse to treat toluene (C6H5-CH3) with catalysts. In laboratorial system, important parameters have been investigated, such as the time, the type of the reactors, gas flow rate, inlet toluene concentration, peak voltage and temperature. Introduce the concept of relative removal rate and absolute removal rate, based on which the reaction mechanism of toluene by catalysis-assisted non-thermal plasma has been explored deeply. The conclusions can be get :The packed bed reactor is much better than other types reactor. Outlet toluene concentration can be stability in 30min. Use high peak voltage, low concentration and low flow rate can effectively raise purifying effect. We design a two-tubes system which first tube has been filled the Co (5%) catalyst and second tube has been filled nothing. To the two-tubes reactor using Co (5%) catalyst, the relative removal rate of toluene has a maximum of 81.54%. With the toluene temperature rising the absolute removal rate rise, but it declined substantially relative removal rate. With three-tubes system, Co (5%) catalyst added to the two tubes catalyst, but third tube was filled nothing. The removal of the relatively less affected, the removal rate in the vicinity of 80%, but the absolute removal of a greater impact. With Co (5%) catalyst or not in the empty tube, the relative removal rate and absolute removal rate are both low.
