In recent years,Chinese atmospheric pollution problem is more and more aggravated.As an important part of atmospheric pollution,volatile organic compounds(VOCs) plaguepeople’s daily work and life seriously,bring great threat to people’s health. So it is of greatsignificance to research and find efficient processing methods for VOCs. Due to thelimitations of traditional treatments for VOCs,New treatment methods for VOCs continueto spring up; among which,plasma technology is a very promising method for its highefficiency,reliability,simple operation,no secondary pollution,etc. Therefore,this paperstudies the arc discharge plasma method for the processing of VOCs.As a common volatile organic compound,toluene is selected as our experimentalsubject. In the arc discharge plasma experiment,the removal rate of toluene underdifferent gas flow,different initial concentrations and different treatment current isresearched. The results show that: In the arc discharge plasma method,the removal rate oftoluene decreases with the incensement of the initial concentration of toluene and the gasflow. When the gas flow Qv=2.2m3/h,the average removal rate of toluene decreaseswith the incensement of the treatment current; while the gas flow rate Qv=3.2m3/h,andthe initial concentration range is0~400,400~800mg/m3,the average removal rate oftoluene have a slight rise when treatment current changing from28A to31A; At last,whenthe gas flow rate Qv=3.8、4.2m3/h,the average removal rate of toluene decreases withthe incensement of the treatment current as the treatment current changing from23A to26A; but when the treatment current changes from28A to31A,the average removal rateof toluene increases slightly. The residence time of toluene is short, under the same gasflow rate and initial concentration, the change of residence time doesn’t play a leading roleto the average removal rate of toluene as the treatment current changes from23A to31A.
