Batch production using suitable nonmetallic or composite materials instead of the traditional steel material is a hot research issue in recent years. To achieve the purpose of the machine tool cost reduction, this study researches the method of making machine tool bed by steel fiber concrete composite, tests the property of the material and the machine, basing on the prototype of cw6163c lathe made by Dalian machine tool group.Firstly, the appropriate material ratio of steel fiber concrete based on the use conditions of machine tool bed is given. According to "Steel fiber concrete test method", the compression strength test, splitting strength test, flexural strength test and bending elastic modulus test are made to study the mechanical properties of the composite material. The test results provide evidence for the design of the composite machine tool bed. Secondly, according to processing technology and work demands of the lathe bed, this dissertation presents the optimization of the machine tool bed structure by finite element software Ansys, and confirms the optimal frame-type structure which meets the requirements in strength, stiffness and inherent frequencies of the lathe. Economical Analysis of the lathe is also given. The embedded parts and mould are designed, and the same rate model machine is cast. Lastly, the loading test of the composite lathe bed is carried out, and the results meets very well with that calculated by Ansys in the same condition, which verify the accuracy of the result that acquired by the software. The creep test is carried out to analysis the long term stability of the composite lathe bed. Results of both numerical simulation and experiment indicate that the frame-type composite lathe bed, which designed according to the material property and the work situation, meets the design requirements. The cost of the steel fiber concrete lathe bed dramatically reduces. The design of mould and the cast of full-scale machine provide the manufacture method of the composite lathe bed. The results of FEM analysis are validated by the loading test of the lathe bed. The creep test shows that the frame structure can significantly reduce the creep of steel fiber concrete, and keep the long term stability of the composite machine tool bed.
