Auto cover panel die is the main process equipment in auto body part manufacturing. The Length of its design and manufacturing cycle and quality immediately influence development cycle of new vehicle, quality and competitive power of vehicle. Compared with traditional two-dimensional design, the parametric three-dimensional design is more intuitive. It can drive geometry by dimension parameter to modify the model and improve design efficiency. The designers can take static interference analysis, dynamic interference analysis and strength check on die structure in the three-dimensional CAD system. These analyses can guarantee quality of die design. The three-dimensional model can be used in processing directly. At present domestic die industry mainly use two-dimensional design, but in the overseas three-dimensional design already became the main method to design die.Through analyzing the typical drawing die's structure, die consists of the main features, auxiliary features and standard parts. The main feature is the main part of die structure. Auxiliary feature is the decoration part based on the main feature. Using the CAA/RADE to develop auxiliary feature program based on CATIA Part Deisgn module. This program enables the designers to create and edit auxiliary feature in Part Design module like other commands in CATIA.The utilization rate of standard part in die can reflect the die industrialization level. Using standard part can improve efficiency and level of die design and standardized degree. Although the specialized standard part company will provide three-dimensional models, they are arranged by its internal product code. More time and energy needed to consult a standard part model which is needed from thousands of models. And these models are parameterless. Using CATIA/Catalog and design table to create the common three-dimensional standard part library of drawing die based on CATIA. Standard parts are organized through directory tree. The designers can use this library to import three-dimensional model of standard part conveniently. .Finally, taking the auto A Pillar Inner as an example, using the auxiliary feature and three-dimensional standard part library developed in this paper to model drawing die in the assembly environment. Take interference analysis on die structure by the analyze tools of CATIA to check the rationality of structure design. This design process can prove that using the auxiliary feature program and three-dimensional standard part library developed in this paper can greatly improve the design efficiency and quality of die design. It can make the designers to concentrate on the general design of die structure. It's no need for the designers to design these common features and standard parts iteratively.
