Titanium and its alloys are widely used in avigation, aerospace and chemical industry due to their exceptionally physical and chemical properties such as low density, high specific strength and exceptional corrosion resistance. The use of titanium alloys is limited for its poor wear resistance and low hardness. The research in this dissertation is to improve the surface properties of titanium alloys by using some surface techniques. The fabrication design and tests of the coatings were implemented The Conventional micronstructured Al2O3+13wt.%TiO2 was compared with the nanostructured Al2O3+13wt.%TiO2 in the coating material research; and laser cladding was compared with the plasma spraying in the technics research. Microstructure and composition of the coating samples were achieved by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Microhardness, wear resistance and binding properties were also tested by the corresponding test facilities. The results show that the properties of the samples with ceramic coating were greatly improved, and the nanostructured ceramic coating was also exhibited a better performance than the normal coating. In addition, plasma sprayed coating with laser remelting could significantly enhance the mechanical properties by comparison with coating without treatment.
