Nd:YAG transparent ceramics will displace single crystal Nd:YAG, becoming a new kind of laser material, owing to its typical crystal structure and high quality physical chemistry performances. Besides, ceramics technology offers several advantages, such as fabricated in large size easily, and produced in mass with lower cost, obtained higher output. In present work, 1at.% Nd:YAG powders were obtained through sol-gel method and solid-state method. After formed to green body, Nd:YAG ceramics were fabricated by vacuum hot-pressless sintering process. Effects of molding pressure, holding time, heating-rate and consent of SiO2 on Nd:YAG ceramics were researched. Finally, Nd:YAG transparent ceramics were obtained after proper formulation of powders and sintering curves were made. And the superfine powders and polycrystal Nd:YAG ceramics were characterized by TG-DTA,XRD, FTIR and SEM. At last, the foreground of its application and the development of transparent YAG laser ceramics are also forecasted.
