With society and economy enjoying rapid development and auto possessive quantity increasing sharply, the dependence on petrol has become increasingly high and the equilibrium between petrol supply and consumption will determine the development of national economy as well as that of the whole world. Biodiesel is a long-chain fatty acid ester compounds, which are made from transesterification reaction with low-carbon alcohol and renewable biological oils and fats. It has the similar physical and chemical characteristics with diesel and renewable and environment-friendly nature. It is considered as a strategic alternative fuel and attracts worldwide attention. In order to understand diesel engine performance when fueled with biodiesel and optimize the applying technology of biodiesel, this paper, on the basis of deep understanding of biodiesel's physical and chemical characteristics, conducts an experimental research on combustion features of engine when fueled with biodiesel and concoctions, and the influence on engine emissions. The experiment is carried out on Sofim four-cylinder turbo charged direct injection diesel engine. Without changing the existing structural parameters of engine, soybean fatty acid-first ester, which concocted with diesel in a volume ratio of 20 percent and 30 percent respectively, is made to conduct a bench test with diesel and pure biodiesel. The experiment studies the influence of combustion with different fuels on engine power, fuel economics and emissions. The experiment also obtains the optimal mixed ratio without changing the structural parameters of engine. In order to further reduce the soot emission of diesel engine fueled with concocted fuel, the paper optimizes mixed ratio of biodiesel/diesel when additives such as second ester and smoke-reducing agent are added. The results show that the soot emission will decrease evidently and engine power and fuel economics stay constant when the engine fueled with the optimized mixed-ratio concocted fuel. The experiment has achieved its goals and should be popularized.
