In recently, with the consciousness for environmental protection, the research on coatings be progressing towards water-soluble, high solid and powder paint and so an. The water-based acrylic resin with good performance, pollution-free and cheap price, rapidly becomes a new kind of green environmental products with low VOC. But the pure acrylic resin exist its disadvantages such as low water-resistance. Therefore, the new synthetic resin that can overcome the defects of above has become more active in the field of research and development.In this paper, first, synthesis and performance of waterborn acrylate resin have been discussed. Experiments show that polymerization by initiating 1%BPO of the amount of monomers with solvent of n-butyl alcohol at 90℃can get excellent resin with high viscosity and high conversion of monomer and good water-solubility and water-resistance of film.Second, in the reactive system based on the synthesis of waterborn acrylate resin, methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC) replaced acrylic acid partly to improve the solubility of the resin instead of using ammonia neutralization, in which avoided storage problem with the volatilization of ammonia. In the synthesis of waterborne acrylic resin, technologic operations that fact the polymerization have been discussed, results indicate the optimal condition of polymerization is that reacted in n-butyl alcohol at 90℃with 11%DMC and 1.25%BPO of the amount of monomers respectively.In the synthesis on fluorin-containing cationic water-based acrylic resin, fluorin-containing acrylic ester and other acrylic monomers were added to reactive system, the copolymer with 4.5% fluorin-containing acrylic ester has high hardness and low water-absorption.With the try of hydroxy silicone oil modified waterborn acrylate resin, result show that hydroxy silicone oil did not react with acrylic acid and st-maleic anhydride-acrylate copolymer under the condition of experiment.In the last chapter, the dry mechanism of cation waterborn acrylate resin in oven have been studied, the infrared spectrum analysis showed that the absorption peak of acid amide groups become more and more stronger obviously with the increasing of the drying temperature and time, and in corresponding of it, the absorption peak of quaternary ammonium salt get weak down. It indicate that acid amide was generated through the cross linking of quaternary ammonium salt and carboxyl in the course of drying.
