Ecological Crisis And Political Choice

In 1962, American Marine Biologist Rachel Carson's Silent Spring gave rise to publics' attention to environmental problem and marked the beginning of Environmental Movement. Now, Ecological crisis have far more become the very fact in 21st century: mineral resources facing exhaustion, forests' receptor area facing recession, farmland facing desertification, part of species' extinction destroyed biodiversity and caused the breakdown of desertification, cosmopolitan shortage of fresh water, destruction of Fisheries Oceanography and reduction of Freshwater Fisheries' area, industrial effluents polluting water resources and human health, organic pesticide polluting farmland and destroying the body's health, the rising of mean temperature of air bringing sea level rise and equatorial zone's temperature overrunning human capacity for acceptance, acid rain destroying crops and forests and so on. There are many differences on economy and politics between developed countries and developing countries, but people all over the world reach an agreement about environmental issues: it is the suicide that people destroy nature unscrupulously all the more. Human being should and must take action to protect our existent earth. Above all, it is necessary to find the root of the environmental problem. But there are difference of opinions on it that whether population expansion or technology, whether greedy human nature or another reason is the very root. This paper regards that government and corporations slipped away when we call to personal account excessively. It is not the reason of population, technology or other reasons but the result of human political misconduct that caused ecological crisis, and it is unnecessary to stay on the dispute. Controlling population, restricting the operation of technology and didactic moralization give only a temporary relief on ecological crisis, politics is the unique real way to solve it fundamentally. The paper contains five parts.The first part is introduction. It is to present the topic significance, the background of writing and come about the questions.The second part is analysis of the current ecological crisis. Concept of ecological crisis follows the explanation of "ecology" from the standpoint of etymology and philosophy. It is important to point out that the social feature of ecological crisis determines that politics is the only resolvent. Population growth, scarce resources and environmental degradation are focal points in analysis of current situation. On the basis of it, it suggest that the emergence of ecology crisis threatened the security of human survival and development. The globalization of ecological crisis determines that it is the problem of all of humanity.The third part is the root cause analysis of ecological crisis. Based on the basically introduction of theory on technological origin, population origin and economic origin, it is clear to see the rationality of them which is not the root cause but the immediate cause of ecological crisis, and we should place it on one side. Government plays an important role in social life. The political misconduct, such as narrow sense of politics, overcentralization of power and fault decision and so on, is the root cause of ecological crisis.The fourth part considers that politics is the only real way to solve ecological crisis. It is closely connected with the former part and suggest that the abandonment of traditional root theory decides the impossibility of solving ecological crisis fundamentally by the means of technology, population and economics. Meanwhile, this part is emphasis of the paper. It is to make a point that politics is the realistic only way of resolvent, on the basis of the former three parts' summarization about the problem. There is an assumption that the ultimate policy execution's realization depends on the political method even though population control and technological limitation etcetera should be effective on eliminating ecological crisis, and then to illustrate the original part of political path.The fifth part is conclusion. It is an arduous task and the road is long to solve the ecological problems properly. Human beings creat civilization in the way of cultural evolution. It is the pursuit of human liberation and nature liberation simultaneously. That is to say, it is the way of leading to freedom. In the process of evolution, human adjust practical means constantly. Adjustment of practical means includes improving the social system and economic institution and so on. This adjustment concerns about and explores aggregate utility of the multiple factors, at the same time, it is more important that government eliminates ecological crisis by means of political path and the seeking of social harmony is the eternal topic.
