There are problems of friction increasing and temperature rising for lubricating the spindle of traditional gear shaper, which lead to the deterioration of machining directly when the number of stroke increases to some extent. So the spindle supporting structure of traditional gear shaper needs to be improved in order to solve the problems mentioned above. For the superiority of lubricating conditions and carrying capacity hydrostatic bearing has, it is suitable to serve as the spindle support of gear shaper with high speed, and then higher rigidity and more precise machining will be obtained after the structure is adopted. Therefore the research and design for the hydrostatic spindle, adapted to the high-speed operation of gear shaper, are mainly discussed in this paper.The related technology status and developing trend about high-speed gear shaper and hydrostatic bearing are outlined. The structure of hydrostatic bearing is designed, and the parameters of hydrostatic system, which are used to theoretically calculate the static performances of hydrostatic bearing, are chosen according to the requirement of hydrostatic bearing.Two different structures of hydrostatic spindle are brought forward, and one of them is chosen finally through comparing the aspects of inertia and rigidity of the structure. Solidworks, a 3D software, is applied to establish the geometric model of hydrostatic spindle, and check its movement interference. The result shows that the structure is reasonable. Considering the complex movement, the seal structure of hydrostatic spindle is designed. In addition, the oil circuit of hydrostatic bearing, which ensured the smooth return of the oil and stability of the hydrostatic system, is figured out to simplify its structure and improve the seal ability.Fluid simulating analysis on hydrostatic bearing is carried on to obtain the carrying capacity, rigidity and flux of the oil film by using the finite element software. By comparing them with the design requirement, the hydrostatic bearing design is proved to be reasonable. After analyzing the impact of eccentricity, radial space and structural parameters of hydrostatic bearing on carrying capacity and rigidity, the rules that how carrying capacity and rigidity change with the factors above are found, and the rules provide a basis for the choice of these factors during design.An experiment method to measure the static characteristics of hydrostatic spindle is proposed. The method includes designing the experimental devices, determining the testing method and choosing the testing instruments, and it lays foundation for the experiment processing successfully.
